We've moved!

Welcome back to the forums! You may have noticed a significant period of downtime last night, but now that we're back, cook up something to bring to the serverwarming. That's right, the Top Secret Radio Network Website has moved to a new server (and everything is exactly the same for you). Feel free to take a look around, but you won't see anything new or different about the forum than before :)

Though, if you do, please email me to let me know; it's not supposed to look different yet!

Good news abounds!

Since our recent loss of our SHOUTcast server, the only DJ broadcasting has been DJ Illya Kuryakin, on a super-secret backup server operated by the Bomb Shelter Newsroom. However, through the superior might of our combined technological capabilities, we have a new server!

Also graciously hosted by the Bomb Shelter Newsroom, the TSRN Red Ball Express is close to being operational. Soon, the SHOUTcast server will be available on http://rbx.topsecretradio.net:8888/. Just as before, you'll be able to see the server information from the main page, http://www.topsecretradio.net/, as well as use the 'Listen!' link on that page too.

We're finally back on the ball! :D

Okay, so, I found out a little while ago that our SHOUTcast server got shut down. Sadly, for at least a little while, that means that there won't be any broadcasting on TSRN. After all, without a server, we can go nowhere.

I'd already laid plans to move the hosting of the stream in-house, but until Verizon gets off their collective butt and brings me FiOS, I'm stuck without a broadband connection to host it on.

More on this as news becomes available.

Sorry about the down-time, folks!

The most common problem we've heard about with the registration process is with choosing a password. Password choice was originally limited to relatively high-strength passwords, but upon consultation, we've lowered restrictions to medium-strength passwords. Medium-strength passwords must be a minimum of eight characters, and may not contain your username or email address.

If you have any issues, including picking a password that the forum will accept, registering for this forum, please email the forum administrative staff at dj {dot] killernurd [at] gmail [dot} com.

Thanks!

You've probably noticed that there aren't any uses with the 'Administrator' or 'Moderator' title running around. If that's the case, count yourself among the 95% of people who don't use their brain to figure out that everyone has a weird title. If you have to ask someone else where the titles came from, you're not exercising your brain enough; please take it for a walk around Google for a while, then come back to slacking off around this forum.

In the event that you haven't figured out what they mean, here's a quick breakdown:
  • Curator - that's an Administrator. Don't piss them off.
  • Collector - that's a Global Moderator. They're kind of like God.
  • Speleologist - that's a moderator. Be nice to them, or they'll haul your ass up before God.

Needless to say, there are always going to be people who want moderator permissions, so here's the answer to folks who ask to be a moderator:
NO.

The general rule of thumb is, if you have to ask to be a moderator, you aren't ready to be a moderator.
Moderator permissions will be granted in the following cases:
  • People in charge of particular Network components.
  • The staff decides that they want or need another moderator.

First Things First
The Top Secret Radio Network does not permit guest participation in this forum. If you wish to participate in this forum, you must register. This is an anti-spam and anti-bot measure taken by the staff, since the last forum that TSRN endorsed got overrun by spambots.

Please, don't hesitate to register and participate; we're very friendly and we don't bite (much), and welcome all new-comers to the communal insanity. If you don't listen to the radio station, don't worry; we're just here to have a good time (though, listening to the radio station is recommended :). If you do listen to the radio station, there's no hope for you anyway, so you might as well sign up for the forum.

Forum Rules
Forum rules are fairly simple. Follow them, or you'll be subjected to a punishment (see below).
  • Respect the other members. If someone has a problem with your behavior, please stop.
  • Watch your language on the public boards. By public, we mean, 'visible to members'. Keep these boards PG-13 or lower.
  • Flaming and Trolling are prohibited. If flames start flying, don't get out the marshmallows or the popcorn. Let the flames cool off.

Individual board moderators may expand on these rules as they see fit, and these rules are also subject to addition and/or modification at any time. Check back if you see a news post about the rules.

Penalties
Penalties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • In-thread warning. A moderator will ask you to knock it off. Don't ignore the moderator.
  • Private warning. This will be in the form of a PM or an email from a moderator.
  • Temporary ban. This is a down-time for both members and moderators.
  • Permanent ban. Extreme cases will invoke this. Circumventing a temporary ban will invoke this automatically.

In general, you'll get a warning first, then escalation if you continue the asshattery. First offenses that warrent it will get slapped with a ban straight off. Moderators will usually be the ones handing out the punishments. Do not make the moderators call the administrators into the fray - you won't like the results.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask a moderator or admin!
